Pirovac
Pirovac is a village and harbour, 26 km northwest of Sibenik. It was first mentioned in the 13th century.
In the Middle Ages Pirovac had a possession of the Bribir counts. The fortifications built in the 16th century have survived like the country-house complex . There is the parish church of St. George from 1506 and it was restored in Baroque style in the 18th century.
Pirovac attracts many tourists due to beautiful beaches in the bays of Vrulje, Sitnica, Vrilo and Makirina , as well as the islet of Sustipanac, placed directly opposite of Pirovac. Many tourists go swimming on the islet and it is also interesting because of the ruins Franciscan`s monastery from 16th century. Medicinal mud found in the area is used for thalassotherapy.
Pirovac is covered with forests. Chief occupations are fishing, farming, viticulture, shipping, producing olive oil and tourism.
Its gastronomic offer is based on the traditional offer of domestic specialities.
Pirovac is ideal starting point for unforgettable excursions to the Kornati archipelago and river Krka.
