Trsteno

Trsteno

Trsteno Bay is a really small pretty village on the Orasac Coast – the main event is the spectacular little bay and impressive arboretum leading down to it. It is absolutely lovely and well worth a visit. Many species of trees and plants were brought here by intrepid mariners over time. Trsteno is a small seaside village known for its rich history.

It’s a lovely place for getting away from the hustle and bustle. The gardens are a calm oasis away from the heat of the beach and a balm for the soul. The little harbor at the bottom of the hill feels like a secret place. The whole area at Trsteno Bay covers around 255,000 square metres and was originally owned by the Gucetic – Gozze family in the late 15th century and the site has an attractive summer residence.

Natural beauty and the 500-year old giant natural monuments – Asian plane-trees. It is the home of the Trsteno Arboretum.

The garden has a Renaissance layout, with a set of geometric shapes formed with plants such as lavender, rosemary, fuchsia and bougainvillea, while citrus trees perfume the air. It’s set around a stone villa (built around 1500), with a cliff-edge pavilion in front and a chapel behind.

Due to it’s closeness to Dubrovnik and under that town’s permanent control, Trsteno was a favoured spot for the nobles to place their summer homes. About 300 estates have been found in this area and about 70 Renaissance villas are somewhat preserved with about 20 in reasonable shape.

Trsteno’s garden/arboretum is alone in being protected as a complete complex.

Enjoy beautiful villa in this stunning place.
