Are you ready to discover the pearls of the Balkans? Travelling the Balkans through three countries of the former Yugoslavia you will have the opportunity to get to know the Balkan culture, its beautiful cities and unforgettable nature. If you like to discover the Balkan gastronomy and the mixture of cultures and religions of this region, this itinerary is made for you.

Day 1: Arrival to Dubrovnik
Arrival at the airport of Dubrovnik, accommodation at the hotel in Dubrovnik. Let the travelling the Balkans begin in beautiful Croatia.

Day 2: Dubrovnik
Breakfast. Visit of the city Dubrovnik, which is famous as the pearl of the Adriatic. Dubrovnik is considered to be the most beautiful city in Croatia. It is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. With your local guide, you will visit this “paradise on earth”. You will visit the historic center of Dubrovnik with numerous churches, palaces, and secret corners.

Among them you will see on the outside: the Regent Palace and the Franciscan monastery with one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. After the guided tour you will have free time to explore the incredible walls or take a boat trip to the “wild” island of Lokrum. It is a small island,  little paradise ten minutes from Dubrovnik where you can arrive by boat. You will visit the Nature Reserve full of vegetation, the botanical garden and the Benedictine monastery built in 1023. Accommodation in Dubrovnik.

Day 3: Dubrovnik– Bay of Kotor – Dubrovnik
After breakfast our next destination is a country of Montenegro, with its Venetian towns of Perast and Kotor full of impressive architecture located on the banks of a grand fjord. Among other things we’ll take a boat trip to the small islet of Our Lady of the Rock built by sailors in the Middle Ages. It is an artificial island created in XV century. Return to Dubrovnik in the late afternoon and accommodation.

Day 4: Dubrovnik– Blagaj – Mostar
Breakfast. Start the day by photographing the “European Chinese Wall” a spectacular fortress in the little town of Ston, located just at the foot of the Pelješac peninsula. While travelling the Balkans you will continue to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the citrus groves filled delta of Neretva River. Neretva river is one of the largest rivers of the eastern part of the Adriatic basin. (fruits, vegetables)

Next stop is a picture-perfect Dervish Monastery at the spring of Buna River in Blagaj. The Blagaj Tekija was built around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style and is considered a national monument. The Buna flows west for approximately 9 km, starts at Blagaj and meandering through villages Blagaj, Kosor, Malo Polje, Hodbina and joins the Neretva at Buna village. The Bunica river is main left bank tributari of the Buna.

The day will end with a guided tour of the capital of Herzegovina – the famous town of Mostar famous for its turbulent history and the UNESCO-protected Old Bridge which gave the town its name (most in a local word for a bridge). Night in Mostar.

Day 5: Mostar – Sarajevo
Breakfast and transfer to the Olympic city of Sarajevo – the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We’ll start a tour by visiting the infamous Tunnel of Hope which served as a vital connection with the unoccupied territory during the almost 4-year long siege of Sarajevo during the Balkan War of the 90s. Later the local guide will introduce you with a Turkish bazaar called Baščaršija. We strongly recommend trying typical Balkan dishes čevapčiči and/or burek and traditional Bosnian coffee. Accommodation in Sarajevo.

Day 6: Sarajevo – Međugorje/Kravice – Split
Breakfast. On our way from Sarajevo to Split, will stop at Medjugorje that attracts numerous Catholic pilgrims from all over the world by supposedly being the place of the most recent apparitions of Virgin Mary. Alternatively you can also visit the beautiful Kravice Waterfall. Night in Split.

Day 7: Split
After breakfast it’s time to learn everything about the the roman emperor Diocletian, who chose this place for his retirement residence. Local guide will take you on a tour of Split‘s historical center which used to be his palace and is today listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. For history buffs we recommend a peek into the Temple of Jupiter and the underground cellars. Free afternoon to buy souvenirs before ending your short Balkan Tour. Accommodation in Split.

Day 8: Split airport or Dubrovnik airport
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport for your return flight. And so, slowly, your travelling the Balkans comes to an end.
