The National park Mljet is one of 8 national parks in Croatia and it is situated on the island of Mljet, one of the largest islands in south Dalmatia.
A picturesque little village of Goveđari rises on a slopes upon a fertile field in National Park – it is the first settlement that had been allowed to be built in Western Mljet by Benedictines and its history only begins in 18th century. The name for the village comes from a word ‘goveda’ – means cattle in Croatian and indicates that the first settlers were farmers. Like all settlements in the park, Goveđari is now entirely protected place.

Life on Mljet is a full nature experience, harsh conditions during winter in contrast to summer when all of nature awakens, it is time to harvest all natural sources of food. Island of Mljet is very proud of its traditional local cuisine. Fish directly from the sea, octopus under the bell and fresh vegetables, it is Dalmatia.
