Podstrana

Podstrana is a beautiful and pleasant tourist destination situated in the south-east of Split (8 km), between Zrnovnica river and the Mutogras hill. It is a beach town without a town center that spreads along the coast, in the foothill of Perun, slope of Mosor through Grbavac, Sveti Martin, Mutogras, Strozanac, Mutogras and Grljevac.

This  region had been inhabited by Greek population already in 1.century AD. In the past, this region has been a battlefield between Croats and Venetians because of the dominance on the sea and then with the Turks and later the French in the 19th century.

The oldest part of Podstrana is located on the south side of Perun near the Vrsine ridge on 340 m. It is Stara Podstrana (the old Podstrana). It is a picturesque village with its old stone houses, surrounded by fields and vineyard. Over time, its inhabitants went down on the coastline and built the”new Podstrana.” Today, life comes back to that abandoned village that offers beautiful view on the Adriatic, Split and islands.

Podstrana’s main asset is its pebble beach that stretches 6 km.You can find there  private accommodation, hotels and restaurants. Nowadays, inhabitants are still involved with agriculture (vineyards, olives, peach plantations….) and tourism. About 2050 families in this region work in tourist business.

From Podstrana you can have a wonderful panoramic view at the sea and the island of Brac.

The vicinity of cities like Split, Omis and Trogir, the mountains and the islands, offer to its guests a lot of possibilities for excursions and cultural visits. Airport Resnik is near the city of Trogir and it is 25 km from Podstrana.

Guests can taste an excellent gastronomic offer of national and international dishes and wines in numerous taverns, restaurants, pizzerias and bars.
