Sušac A2
The island is surrounded by endless open sea that makes you feel completely secluded from the rest of the world. When seen from distance, it seems as though Susac consists of two islands.
ACCOMMODATION
Susac lighthouse was built in 1878 on the highest point of the extremely steep southern side of the island, where there are numerous cliffs jetting out of the deep crystal clear sea. The lighthouse building lies at a height of 100 m and offers views of the endless open sea. The lighthouse is a stone, ground-floor building with two four-bed apartments. There is a berth where smaller boats can be pulled out in the vicinity of the lighthouse.
BEACHES
Secluded bays on the eastern, shallow side of the island are ideal for swimming. They are some 30 to 50 minutes walk from the lighthouse. The lighthouse keepers will let you know which well-kept trails will lead you to them.
TRANSFER
Transfer Vela luka – Susac – Vela luka is organized by speed-boats. Return transfer is charged extra and lasts 45 minutes.
We kindly ask all guests to arrange the transfer several days before arrival. It is also possible to get a transfer directly from Split airport to the lighthouse.
Due to island’s distance from the mainland, supplies should be brought along!
THE STORY
There is a sea water lake in the cliffs on the northern side of the island that can be reached from the sea by diving through a cave at a depth of some fifteen meters. Even some movie scenes were shot at this location. The only inhabitants on Susac are the lighthouse keepers and sometimes a shepherd with his flock of sheep who comes to the island due to the specific grazing land. Many valuable archaeological artifacts have been found on the island, while further research will reveal more about its history. Many endemic species of birds and other animals live on the island.

Sušac
The little island of Sušac is about 13 nautical miles away from the west coast of Lastovo. Its south-west coast is steep and harsh, while others are gentle and hilly. The island will fascinate you with its beauty as well as its intensive feeling of detachment from the rest of the world.
Vegetation is scarce because rainfall is extremely rare. This is most likely how it acquired its name. The sea around Sušac has a transparency of about 30 metres. There are many coves ideal for diving and swimming on the island.
At the highest point of the island, 100 meters high, on the cliffs, Emperor Franz Joseph I gave orders to build a lighthouse in 1879, which is still in use today.
You need two hours of sailing. Of course, there is no regular transport line or anything alike – but don’t give up, because tourists who really want to enjoy the pleasure, we will organize their trip. If you decide to take this trip, you will be amazed by the beauty of the island, but also the fact that there exist remains of a 4th century church and that 200 people lived on Sušac in the past.
The only permanent inhabitants on Sušac today are two lighthouse keepers.
