Baška Voda is a small town on the Makarska Riviera, with about 2100 inhabitants.This tourist jewel located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. In history was a typical Mediterranean village of farmers and fishermen. With the development of tourism at the beginning of the 1960. Baška Voda has grown into a desirable tourist destination with a wide range of entertainment and cultural events.
It is 10 kilometers northwest of the city of Makarska and 45 kilometers of the Split. The name of Baška Voda probably comes from Biston, the mythical ancestor of the Thracian tribes of Bistonen. He was the son of Ares and Kalyroja goddess, protector of the water. Symbols of these deities can be found in the vicinity of the place.
Archaeological finds suggest that this area was inhabited since Roman times. Settlement was established in the early 18th century. There are two churches in Baška Voda: St. Lovro’s Church and St. Nicholas’ Church.
There are two major museum collections in the old town center: archaeological collections and the ultra-rich and high-quality Malacological Collection.
Baška Voda was commercial, agricultural and fishing place and now it is a popular tourist destination. Clean sea, beautiful pine forests and beautiful beaches attract them.
