Zagreb<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0capital of Croatia<\/strong>, but the first capital was Nin.<\/p>\n

Croatian\u00a0Slavoljub Penkala<\/strong>\u00a0invented a mechanical pencil in 1906. He called it” Penkala”. His patent was registered in 35 countries.<\/p>\n

In Krapina, near Zagreb, professor Dragutin Gorjanovic Kramberger discovered the richest\u00a0collection of remains of Neanderthal people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0amphitheatre<\/strong>\u00a0in Pula, (Istria ) is one of only 3 preserved amphitheatres in the world. It was used for gladiator fights. It is also the 6th largest amphitheatre in the existence.<\/p>\n

The sea organ<\/strong>\u00a0is the first pipe organ that is played by the sea\u2019s rhythmic waves. It is in\u00a0Zadar,<\/strong>\u00a0on the Dalmatian Coast.<\/p>\n

The oldest university<\/strong>\u00a0in Croatia is the University of\u00a0Zagreb.\u00a0<\/strong>It is\u00a0\u00a0established in 1669.<\/p>\n

The most famous beach (Zlatni rat) in all of Croatia is the beach in Bol<\/strong>, on the island of Brac.<\/p>\n

The eighth deepest cave in the world is in Croatia. It is\u00a0Lukina cave<\/strong>\u00a0with 1,392 m of deep and lays in the National Park of Sjeverni Velebit, 1,475 m above sea level.<\/p>\n

On the mountain Vidova Gora, located on the Island of Brac is the peak Sutvid. Sutvid is the highest peak in the Adriatic Islands.<\/p>\n

Town of\u00a0Zadar<\/strong>\u00a0keeps the title of the\u00a0best sunset in the world.<\/strong>\u00a0It was the opinion of Alfred Hitchcock. He said: \u2018Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world, more beautiful than the one in Key West, Florida\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Rijeka Carnival<\/strong>\u00a0is not only the biggest in Croatia but also one of the most popular carnivals in Europe.<\/p>\n

Wine<\/strong>\u00a0is produced in Croatia thanks to the influence of Greeks.<\/p>\n

In 1960,\u00a0National Park of Paklenica<\/strong>\u00a0was filmed the movie about the fictional Native American hero\u00a0Winnetou.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Almost 10% of Croatia<\/strong>\u00a0is covered with 11 nature parks, eight national parks and two nature reserves.<\/p>\n

One third of Croatia is covered in forest.<\/p>\n

The highest peak in Croatia is called Dinara.<\/p>\n

From the 9th century Croatians used their own Glagolitic script. It was used parallel with Latin script until the 18th century.<\/p>\n

The largest island of Croatia is Krk (near Rijeka), with a land area of 462 sq km.<\/p>\n

The necktie<\/strong>\u00a0was invented in Croatia and it is known as \u2018kravata.<\/p>\n

Picigin<\/strong>\u00a0is a traditional ball game from Croatia that is played on the beach<\/strong>. It is an amateur sport played in shallow water consisting of players keeping a small ball from touching the water. Every summer on the beach Ba\u010dvice in Split, you can see the boys and girls playing picigin.<\/p>\n
