Vir

The island of Vir is situated in Dalmatia region of Croatia. It has a surface of 22, 38 km and lenght of 10,12 km.

Vir town is the main of three on the island (the other towns on the island are Lozice and Torovi). Vir has an ideal location. It is near Zadar, historical old town of Nin and famous Zaton ressort. In Nin you can find the smallest cathedral in the world (St.Cross, Sveti Križ). It is in the vicinity of four National Parks: Paklenica, the Kornati archipelago, Plitvice lakes and Krka waterfalls. There is also in the vicinity  the park of nature; Telascica. Beaches in Vir are mostly sandy or pebbly. The island of Vir is connected to the mainland by a bridge.

In the past, the name of the island was “Veru”, “Uery”.

Vir is a tourist place and you can find there many apartments, houses and beautiful nature will attract you. Fields, gardens, valleys, Mediterranean vegetation, cultivated vineyards, it is arranged in a chain from the south to the north. The stony coast in the north part of the island offers an attractive place for deep-sea divers.The most beautiful beach is in the Duboka draga (“deep cove” ). Miljkovica and Donja Prezida are other very popular beaches. The small island of Školjić is completely covered with pinewood and it has long sandy beach.

Vir will also enrich its visitors with a spirit of ancient times, which can be felt in the exploration of fortifications, churches and old ruins. The most important churches are the Saint George of the Banner and the Saint John the Baptist.

In Vir, you can find restaurants and cafes, traditional konoba wine-cellars, disco-club, tourist-office,fish store and many other things. You can experience the typical atmosphere of the island.
